The Perch

jansmatters.com, July 24, 2022August 13, 2022
I have often thought of myself as a
bird
tethered to a perch

In my various and several attempts
at freedom
I have been injured
Or have injured

As of late, I realize that if I am a bird
The perch is of my own choosing
And
If it was ever there
The tether is no more

Perhaps now, as I look around
from the vantage point
the fates provided
Peace
Tranquility

To Stay
Or
To Go
As I please

Perhaps, as what pain
I have sustained wanes
A chance to make amends

To play a part

To come
And
To go

If ever the urge should take me

I may

Just

Fly away

Or

Tuck my wings
After flight
And alight

Upon my perch

Another day

Antipathy

December 16, 2024December 16, 2024

We fight for naught. We trip over trite nasty words. We ambush. We lie. We sought affinity, and gaunt sharp conceits brought words on the tip to snipe to wound. We ambush. We lie. We fight for naught.

Dearest Judy,

May 6, 2024May 6, 2024

When I gaze at the black and white photo of you, at four years old, I find your personality so perfectly framed. You sit at the kitchen table in our childhood home. Sun comes in from the window behind you, lighting up your hair and creating a sort of halo…
