Flight and Fancy

jansmatters.com, August 16, 2022August 16, 2022
I sailed my ship
through time gone by
and never found
the start

I sailed my ship
through days to come
and never reached
the end

My trip was short
through both extremes
it took me
just a second

My ship defied
the laws of physics
its speed
exceeded light

I reached out
through expanse of space
and sought
it's never ending

But as I reached
it moved away
and eluded
my seeking grasp

My ship my mind
was fleet and agile
in its flight
through the infinite all

It looked and it saw
it sought and it found
no limits
no confines
no bounds

The shadows in the room deepened in the dim light caste by the green shaded desk lamp. The computer screen added an eerie glow. The gloom matched his mood.  He sat, head in hands. The desktop was covered with note papers, brown papers; typewritten, handwritten. His email, like the desktop,…

Waiting

March 9, 2024March 9, 2024

As Brendan waited for the A train, the shabby old man on the subway platform caught his attention.  Brendan noticed him, not because he was mumbling; not because of his shambling gait; not because of his disheveled and slightly soiled clothes. These are relatively normal for New York City homeless….
